Overview
Speedport Hub ("the Extension") is a Chrome browser extension providing speed testing, connection monitoring, router profile management, and quick access to speedport.ip and https://speedport-ips.de/. This policy explains what data the Extension accesses and how it is used.
By installing Speedport Hub, you agree to the practices described here.
Data Accessed
Speedport Hub accesses the following data solely to provide core features:
- Local IP address — detected via WebRTC to identify your device on the local network. Never transmitted externally.
- Network connection info — connection type and signal quality via the browser Network Information API. Used for display only.
- Speed test results — simulated download/upload speeds and ping. Stored locally in Chrome storage.
- Router profiles — names, URLs, icons, and notes you save. Stored only in Chrome's local storage on your device.
- Ping history and uptime logs — connection monitoring data. Stored locally and never transmitted.
Data We Do NOT Collect
Speedport Hub does not collect, access, or transmit:
- Browsing history or web activity
- Cookies or session tokens
- Personally identifiable information
- Geolocation data
- Device identifiers
- Crash reports or analytics telemetry
Local Storage
All user data (profiles, speed history, ping logs) is stored via Chrome's chrome.storage.local API — on your device only, never synced to Google servers unless you have Chrome Sync for Extensions explicitly enabled in your Chrome settings.
You can delete all stored data at any time by removing the extension or clearing its storage in Chrome's extension settings.
Permissions Explained
- storage — save speed test history, router profiles, and monitoring data locally
- tabs — open speedport.ip or speedport-ips.de in a new tab on user request
- alarms — schedule periodic background monitoring checks when enabled
- host_permissions (local IPs + speedport-ips.de) — allow the popup to communicate with local router addresses and the Speedport IPS website
Third-Party Services
Speedport Hub does not integrate with or transmit data to any third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking platforms.
The extension provides quick-access links to speedport.ip (your local router) and https://speedport-ips.de/ (an external informational site). When you click these links, your browser navigates to those URLs — this is a standard browser navigation and subject to those sites' own privacy policies. No data from the Extension is passed to these sites.
Google Fonts are loaded for typography — this is a standard browser request subject to Google's privacy policy.
Children's Privacy
Speedport Hub is not directed at children under 13. Since no personal data is collected whatsoever, this concern does not apply in practice.
Changes to This Policy
If this Privacy Policy is updated, the "Updated" date at the top will change and a new Extension version will be released. We will never introduce data collection without clear disclosure.
